Hard Gun Cases for Hunters who Travel

By Richard P. Smith

Just like other hunters who travel, I want to make sure my cased guns make it onboard airline flights with no hassles and reach their destination in the same condition as when they were put in the case. I also want to make sure my guns are secure and can’t be removed from the case by anyone but me. I’ve discovered Italian-made Negrini gun cases are among the best to help accomplish those goals. They are airline approved for international travel, sturdy yet light, are adaptable for many types of firearms and have lifetime warranties.

The three to four combination latches on Negrini’s long gun cases insure that no one will have access to my guns without my knowledge. The combination locks are recessed to prevent damage to cases on airport terminal conveyor belts.

Most Negrini cases are designed to carry one rifle, shotgun or handgun, but they also make larger models to accommodate those two-gun trips. On some hunts, you may want to have both a rifle and shotgun with you for shooting small game, upland birds or waterfowl when you are not after big game. When a variety of big game are your targets, you may need two rifles or at least want to have a backup rifle in case a problem develops with your primary firearm.

One very important thing that sets these gun cases apart from others I’ve used is they come complete with Velcro straps to secure long guns in place. Any movement of cased guns inside the case increases the chances of damage. That won’t happen inside Negrini cases. On top of that, there’s plenty of quality padding to protect guns when cases are dropped, thrown or stepped on.

Something I really like is that a number of Negrini gun cases have storage space for carrying hunting accessories that you also want to make sure are protected such as binoculars, range finders or trail cameras in addition to other items that you want to pack with your guns such as cleaning kit, game calls, orange vests and ammunition. The two-gun cases have two large luggage compartments in the top half with cargo netting to hold clothing and gear in place besides the smaller compartments available in one-gun cases. A fold down padded wall separates the guns from the luggage compartments found in two-gun cases.

The large two-gun cases are rated for carrying up to 50 pounds of cargo. They also come equipped with three luggage standing feet, a reinforced pull handle and quality in-line wheels for easy transport in airport terminals.

Negrini makes cases for tactical rifles, takedown rifles and shotguns and even rifles with two barrels. Most shotgun cases made by Negrini, in fact, are designed for transporting them with barrels removed. These shorter cases are easier to carry than longer models made by other manufacturers.
